How can weeds improve plant growth?

Weeds are a usual menace in most gardens. But if you have a little time to spare, here a few tips on how to utilize weeds to improve the growth of plants in your garden.

Plenty of weeds!

Simple way of utilizing weeds for plant growth is to use them for mulching. Just cut the shoots of the weeds and spread them as a layer of mulch on the garden soil. This will keep the soil moist in dry climate. If you are pulling out the weeds, cut off the roots and dispose or some of the weeds like grass will grow back if you use as mulching.

Another way is to use weeds for composting. This will save you on the cost of manure for plants as well as improve plant growth.

Still another method which may not be so environment friendly is to burn the weeds and use the ashes as manure. Ash contains a lot of potassium which is an important plant nutrient. Burning weeds is not a good idea in a city where the air quality is already down due to motor vehicle exhaust.
