About 200 carrot seed were sown in two garden pots. Only some of them seems to have sprung up. This pot has a few tiny Carrot saplings (Daucus carota subsp. sativus). The other pot has still fewer. Carrot saplings (Daucus carota subsp. sativus) is not usually grown in this region. Trying out in this relatively colder climate in December.

Carrot saplings (Daucus carota subsp. sativus) is a root vegetable which is usually orange in color, though other varieties like purple and yellow are grown elsewhere. The part usually eaten is the greatly enlarged taproot.

Carrot is a rich source of vitamin A generated from the provitamin beta carotene. Vitamin B6 and K are present in fair amounts. The bright orange color is due to beta carotene.
